I quickly noticed that Austin is weird. The people are weird, the stores are weird, the restaurants are weird but this is all OK because Austin embraces their weirdness. In fact, I saw several bumper stickers that said, "Keep Austin Weird."
Here I am keeping Austin weird by dressing up as a Q-Tip on Halloween.
Saturday morning we got up, ate a yummy breakfast at Austin Java and then walked to Barton Springs. What a beautiful place. I was amazed that this treasure was in the heart of a city.
The water was refreshingly cold.
We sat on the bank for about 30 minutes and watched this lady wade in the water. At first we were shocked that she had jeans on. The water was up to her waist! Then the shocker ... she was wearing tennis shoes, too! Austin is weird.
As we walked through Barton Springs we met these nice folks. Matt (left) and his wife own a company called Hill Country Surf. Matt and his wife teach people how to do stand up paddling. It's really awesome. Check out their Web site. Hopefully they will be Saxum's first Austin client.
On the last day, we went to Austin's Town Lake and rented a canoe. It was a beautiful day - 85 degrees with overcast skies. It was perfect. As you can see, the Lake is basically in downtown Austin. It was amazing to be in the midst of a crazy city but still on a peaceful lake. And no, we could not make the canoe go straight. And yes, we ran into two other canoes.

It looks like you had a great time. Funny that's not the Austin I saw when I went, but of course we had OSU on our minds and I was 8 months pregnant. Probably a little more fun when you aren't huge.
ha, this is a funny weird post. I love, love, love the q tip.
Have I ever mentioned that you crack me up? you do.
